Recently gave up MapMyTracks and Strava for Runtastic
Full Disclosure: Ive been a regular user of MapMyTracks app since 2012. Ive also been an infrequent user of Strava.
Over the last couple of years Ive been a vocal critic but a loyal user of MapMyTracks. It served my needs. But with each revision it would get more bloated and more unstable on iOS. The straw that broke the camels back was it lost/hosed 2 rides totalling 80km. Unacceptable.
Strava drove me away with some of their software changes and the limitations of their API freezing out many 3rd party tools. All it had left was its social system which isnt enough to swallow everything I hated about Strava.
So I started a 2 week search to replace my athletic tracking apps. Tried a half dozen. All pretty decent in their own ways. The Runtastic family of apps I had acquired previously so it was nice to see they were still around and kicking.
Been using Runtastic to track 5-20km walks and 15-65km mountain bike rides while playing Pokémon Go. I run Runtastic in the background while listening to spoken word podcasts on Downcast and playing Pokémon Go. With Runtastic giving my me audio prompts every .5km Im in tune with what Im doing athletically while having fun outside.
Currently Im very satisfied with the Pro version of Runtastic.
Id like to see a lower price to remove ads. Until that happens this app is very expensive and should be avoided. 3/5 stars until their expensive pricing schemes are fixed.
I dont need story mode. Or some other training modes. Just a quality trackers that is ad free.
Fix this and its a 5/5 star app.
