Great app for tracking... until you realize it tracks even after your run

Why is there not an option to turn on location tracking only when using the app? I thought that was the case until I started using the app again recently. Did this happen with an update within the past year? And why do you app developers need to track my location even when Im not using your app? Other than that, I love the app, but will now need to enable and disable tracking in my phone settings just to go on runs. Lame.
